Top Five Luxury Hotel Experiences

Six Senses

The competition between luxury hotels around the world is high: all of them striving to offer the best of everything. But what truly sets some of these hotels apart in the luxury space is a unique experience that they alone can offer. Here are five of our favourite hotels that are providing unique experiences for the high-end, luxury traveller.

1. Six Senses Zighy Bay Resort, Oman

First impressions count for a lot: what we experience in those initial interactions is remembered long after. Luxury hotel operator, Six Senses, have devised a unique and memorable way of welcoming guests to their Zighy Bay Resort, which is set on a on a peninsula in northern Oman. Starting high on the rocky peaks overlooking the resort and aqua-blue ocean beyond, guests can gear up with an experienced paraglider and tandem paraglide down to the resort – it’s the ultimate grand arrival.

2. The Lions Sands Game Reserve, South Africa

For those that are not afflicted with sleep-walking or a fear of things that go bump in the night, there is the chance to stay overnight in a custom-built, sleep-out tree house in the heart of the South Africa bush. This unique experience allows you to fall asleep viewing the stars and listening to the noises of the wild – with nothing but a two-way radio, a picnic and drinks, and the local wildlife for company.

3. Gangtey Lodge, Bhutan

In the hustle-bustle world in which we live, who wouldn’t seek to gain some wisdom from a Buddhist Monk? The Gangtey Lodge, in the upper reaches of the breathtakingly beautiful Gangtey Valley in Bhutan, aims to connect guests physically, spiritually and emotionally with their surroundings, and they do so with the help of monks from the local monastery. The lodge’s five-star luxury surrounds are complemented by special nurturing experiences like a personal butter lamp ceremony lead by the senior monk teacher of the local monastery.

4. Belmond Hotel das Cataratas, Brazil

There are some famous sights that we would all love to have all to ourselves, without the crowds. The Belmond Hotel das Cataratas lies at the feet of the majestic Iguassu Falls, within the national park itself, so staying at the hotel provides guests with access to the falls long before first day-tripping tourist is allowed into the park. Seeing the falls and jungle surrounds at first light, when the forest animals and birds are most active is a sight not to be missed. The hotel offers an exclusive ‘first light’ walk to the falls, providing guests with Leica Trinovid HD binoculars so they can see all the rare flora and fauna around the falls at a particularly magical time of the day.

5. Atlantis Palm Resort, Dubai

Rounding out our list of five unique, luxury hotel experiences has to be one of the underwater suites at The Atlantis. There two suites, each with floor-to-ceiling views directly into the aquarium, which gives the impression of being under the sea. With over 65,000 marine animals just outside the suites’ windows, guests can gaze away at the amazing underwater sea life whilst sipping their complementary French champagne.
