Canada’s Yukon Territory

The whole of Canada’s north-western Yukon Territory is a wildlife sanctuary; a place where the moose outnumber the humans two to one. While spotting wildlife roaming freely is always exhilarating, there’s something truly special about witnessing these magnificent creatures up close at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, where 700 acres of snowy hills, marshes, steep cliffs and flat lands are the perfect ecosystem for 11 species of northern Canadian mammals.

The Yukon Wildlife Preserve is not a traditional zoo or theme park. Instead, the animals live in large, spacious enclosures that mimic their natural habitats, allowing them to live and behave as they would in the wild. The preserve is committed to educating the public about wildlife conservation efforts and the importance of protecting northern Canadian wildlife.

Ready to set your Instagram feed on fire? Have the camera poised to capture awe-inspiring creatures, including bison, moose, mule, deer, woodland caribou, elk, mountain goats, Canada lynx, and foxes, to name a few.

Just 25 minutes from downtown Whitehorse, visitors can walk, ski, snowshoe or fat-bike the five-kilometre viewing loop at their own pace, or jump on a bus tour with a knowledgeable interpreter.

However, you choose to experience it, be prepared for magical encounters of the four-legged kind as the Yukon’s wild creatures show off their incredible northern adaptations, against a breathtaking backdrop of pristine Yukon wilderness.

With adorable baby bison birthing throughout the Canadian spring season, there’s never been a better time to visit the Yukon Wildlife Preserve.
