You know that fantasy where you swan into a designer boutique, get handed a glass of something bubbly, and someone whose hair has clearly never been touched by frizz hands you clothes that make you look like an heiress on Housewives of Beverley Hills or wherever is glam these days? - And I’m not making this up, a bespoke Max Mara button cookie. It’s a biscuit shaped like a couture fastening. It’s adorable. It’s delicious. It’s also the closest most of us will get to eating designer fashion.
Where History Gets a Blow-Dry in Sydney
Both brands have been around since the 1800s, though in very different guises. Max Mara’s roots go back to Marina Rinaldi, the founder’s great-grandmother, who ran a serious dressmaking workshop in Reggio Emilia. The Porter House started life in the 1870s as a tobacco factory and later a leather merchant, before being reincarnated into a boutique hotel so chic it now smells faintly of bergamot and ambition.
According to Mitchell Turner, the hotel’s General Manager, the package gives guests “their own Pretty Woman moment.” Granted, you’ll be dressed by Max Mara instead of Richard Gere’s platinum card, but the principle’s the same.
Location, Location, Location
The hotel’s heritage shell hides a contemporary interior so glossy you’ll want to Instagram the lift. And since it’s only a short stroll from the QVB, Pitt Street Mall, and Westfield, you can glide from your styling session straight into a shopping spree. Or, more realistically, you can stare at handbags that cost more than your first car, then retreat to your room to drink your wine and eat your designer biscuit while wearing the hotel bathrobe like it’s couture.
