Is This the Best Restaurant in Byron Bay?

(Spoiler: Technically, It’s in Ewingsdale. Calm Down, We’re All Friends Here.)

If you’re the sort of person who gets twitchy about geographical specifics, fine. Three Blue Ducks isn’t technically in Byron Bay, it’s in Ewingsdale. But honestly? Byron’s boundaries are about as tidy as a pair of yoga pants on laundry day, so we’re giving it honorary citizenship. Anyway, Ewingsdale is basically Byron’s quieter, better-dressed sibling who isn’t constantly having to apologise for their influencer cousins crashing bicycles into pedestrians. Meet the Ducks

Once, there were three Ducks. Then six. Possibly nine. Nobody’s entirely sure, maths gets very fluid after a few house-made ginger beers.

But it doesn’t matter.

The point is: they’re here, they’re sustainable, and they’re very keen for you to feel morally superior while eating things so delicious you’ll forget you ever liked McDonald’s.

Their Byron outpost is set on The Farm, capital F, because this isn’t your Nana’s back paddock with a suspiciously angry rooster.

Here, livestock enjoy VIP treatment, toddlers named Sage and Clementine roam barefoot, and everyone behaves as if they were born understanding quinoa.

Vegetarian Suspicion: High Alert

Now, as a vegetarian, walking into a farm-to-table restaurant feels a bit like wandering into a gladiator arena armed only with a tote bag.

You brace yourself: will the butter be bacon-flavoured?

Will the salad arrive with a cheerful smear of “beef essence”?
(“Paddock to plate!” they’ll cry, while you quietly cry inside.)

But, dear reader, Three Blue Ducks gets it.

Here, vegetables aren’t sad afterthoughts; they’re headliners.

Finally, it’s your time to be smug.

Step One: Carb-Based Salvation

Start strong with the Bread Social sourdough and cultured butter with smoked salt.
It’ll arrive all rustic and innocent, like it’s just popped over from a linen commercial, but one bite and you’ll realise:
This isn’t bread.
This is a lifestyle choice.
A personality upgrade.
A religious experience involving yeast.

The butter is decadent on a level they’ll probably classify as illegal in a few years. Honestly, if there’s a butter rehab facility out there, you’re going straight to it.

Step Two: Olive-Related Personality Crisis

You must, MUST, order the Grumpy Grandma’s olives.
These little miracles have marinated in lemon, garlic, chilli and existential wisdom.
They’re so glorious they’ll make you reevaluate every supermarket olive you’ve ever eaten while muttering, “What was I THINKING?”

Even if you normally hate olives, these ones will have you sobbing into your linen napkin whispering, “I was wrong. I see now.”

The Main Event at Three Blue Ducks in Byron Bay

The polenta gnocchi with farm greens, pear, parmesan and pecan is what I imagine angels eat when they’re feeling decadent. It’s not just a meal; it’s a transformative event.

Halfway through, you’ll start mentally moving to Byron, opening a vegan bakery called “Fern and Fig,” and commissioning artisanal pottery for your yet-to-exist herb garden.

Meanwhile, carnivores are over at their table aggressively poking Moreton Bay bugs with forks and making noises like competitive lawnmowers.

Let them.

You’re busy achieving inner peace through falafel, whipped chickpeas, grains, sprouts, pickles, and charred pita.

The Sides: The Gateway to Delusion

Still hungry? Good.

Get the smashed cucumber with sesame, chilli oil and cashew, so crunchy, spicy and fresh it will have you genuinely believing you could become one of those women who knows how to grow heirloom tomatoes without weeping.

Spoiler:
You won’t.
You’ll kill a cactus by October.
But for now, bask in the fantasy.

Atmosphere: Byron Bay Without the Breakdown

Outside: barefoot children darting between heirloom pigs and yoga mums, all draped in organic cotton so soft it looks woven from the sighs of artisanal angels.
Inside: sunlight pours in, bouncing off beautiful people making beautiful food while pretending they don’t notice you openly gawking at them from behind a basil plant.

The chefs, bronzed, serene, suspiciously attractive, man the open kitchen like it’s a catwalk sponsored by ethically sourced wetsuits.

Order the house-made ginger beer if you want actual ginger flavour (shocking concept) or a Stone & Wood if you want to fully Lean In to the Very Local aesthetic.

After two sips, you’ll start speaking in soft, farm-fresh metaphors.
After three, you’ll begin sketching plans for your organic goat cheese startup.

By the time you leave, a beautiful madness will have taken hold.

You will genuinely believe you are one kombucha course away from quitting your job, buying chickens, and hosting monthly slow-food suppers called things like Harvest Moon Feast.

Will you actually do it?
Of course not.
You’ll be back on your couch by Thursday night, ordering Uber Eats and shouting at The Bachelor.

But for two glorious hours, in this magical Ewingsdale fever dream of sourdough, pumpkin, and emotionally supportive cucumber,
you’ll believe you’ve become Someone Better.

And honestly, isn’t that what eating out is all about?
