Checking into a Sensory Delight: Why Adina Town Hall is a Feast for the Senses

There are a few things I always judge a hotel by. First, does it smell divine or does it reek of industrial-strength disinfectant? Second, does it have marble? And third, will I leave this place feeling like a better version of myself, or at least a more pampered one? I’m pleased to report that Adina Town Hall Sydney ticks all these boxes and then some.

If Greek Goddesses frequented chic hotels

Let’s start with the scent, because I firmly believe the power of a good fragrance is underrated. You know how some hotels have that weird, vaguely floral but mostly chemical air freshener that clings to your clothes like an overenthusiastic hug from an elderly aunt? Not here. Adina Town Hall has absolutely nailed its hotel fragrance game with Appelles Apothecary and Lab’s Comfrey and Body Wash, which smells like something a Greek goddess would use, if Greek goddesses frequented chic, modern apartment hotels. If I were the type to accidentally slip something into my suitcase (which I am not, obviously), this would be the thing. Instead, I did the honourable thing and went straight to their website to order some, because I now require this scent in my life at all times.

A Visual Treat in the Heart of Sydney

Of course, a hotel needs to be more than just an olfactory delight. It needs to look good too, and Adina Town Hall delivers in spades. The location is, quite frankly, ridiculous in the best possible way. You’re steps away from Pitt Street shopping (where I definitely did not buy another handbag I don’t need), a short stroll to Ho Jiak Malaysian (where the laksa could heal your soul), and dangerously close to Uncle Tetsu’s cheesecake (if you know, you know). And the views? From my window, I could see Sydney’s iconic Town Hall, its historic clock tower standing like a grand old dame amidst the city skyline.

A masterclass in understated luxury

Inside, the design is a masterclass in understated luxury. There’s an immediate warmth to the space, none of that cold, clinical minimalism that makes you feel like you’re staying in a dentist’s waiting room. From the moment you step into the lobby, with its circular banquette seating and inviting reception pods, there’s a sense of calm. The colour palette is soothing, the furniture chic yet comfortable, and the lighting just moody enough to make you feel like a more sophisticated version of yourself.

But what really got me? The marble. Oh, the marble. If, like me, you have a completely irrational but deeply committed love affair with smooth, cool surfaces, you will adore the marble benchtops, tables, and accents dotted throughout the rooms. Running your hand over them is like some kind of guilty pleasure—so indulgent, so satisfying.

A hotel with a cocoon-like effect

Then there’s the sense of touch because what’s the point of a hotel that looks fabulous but isn’t comfortable? The beds? Divine. The pillows? Like clouds. And the wallpaper? Yes, even the wallpaper is luxurious, with textures and lighting that create an almost cocoon-like effect. You don’t just stay here, you sink into it.

And space, glorious space! Apartment hotels have always been my preference because, let’s be honest, a standard hotel room can feel like a well-decorated shoebox. But the Adina? It’s like having your own architect-designed, impossibly stylish home-away-from-home. The kitchen is perfect, equipped with Smeg appliances (because nothing ruins a hotel experience faster than a sub-par kettle). There’s a beautiful brass kitchen island that practically begs you to open a bottle of wine and pretend you’re on MasterChef.

And if you’re someone who loves a great pool, you’ll be thrilled to know that Adina Town Hall delivers on that front too. Because really, is there anything better than a swim with a city view?

Designed to Feel Like a Hug

Beyond the aesthetics, there’s something special about the thoughtfulness behind this hotel. Every detail has been designed to maximise space, light, and comfort, creating an environment that feels warm and welcoming. The spotlights highlight the curtains that hug the corners of the room. The sculptural brass door handles are both practical and a little bit glamorous. The lighting casts beautiful shapes onto textured wallpapers. It’s all those tiny, well-thought-out details that make the space feel curated rather than just decorated.

The designers have created a place that genuinely feels good to be in, not just a place to stay, but a place to exhale. As one of the designers put it, “There’s a level of warmth here as if the room is putting its arms around you and giving you a bit of a hug.” Which, if you’ve just had a long day traipsing around Sydney in search of the perfect laksa, is exactly what you want.

The Perfect Balance of Style and Substance

It’s easy to make a hotel look good, but it’s much harder to make it feel good. That’s where Adina Town Hall excels. From the thoughtfully designed rooms to the incredible location, from the swoon-worthy marble to the sensory delight of its signature fragrance, it offers an experience that feels effortlessly luxurious, deeply comforting, and just a little bit indulgent.

So, would I recommend it? Let’s just say this. if you’re heading to Sydney and don’t want to waste your time in a soulless, characterless hotel, then Adina Town Hall is where you want to be. Bring your love of good design, bring your appreciation for divine-smelling toiletries, and for the love of all things holy, bring an empty suitcase because you will be leaving with a cheesecake.
