Tokar Estate winery, restaurant and cellar door in Yarra Valley, Victoria
Tokar Estate winery, Yarra Valley, is set on the gentle north-facing slope that runs from the Maroondah Highway to the foot of the Coldstream Hills. The winery has almost thirty acres under the vine including varieties of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Shiraz, and Chardonnay, Set in acclaimed company of Yarra Yering and Coldstream Hills winery, this winery has won many awards including best shiraz at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.
The winery was established in 1999 after more than 12 hectares of vines were planted.
Those who prefer not to drive after a day at the winery can stay at The Residence which is Tokar Estate’s luxuriously appointed on-site Bed and Breakfast. The views are stunning and the onsite restaurant matches dishes with award-winning cellar door wines.
Tokar estate offers vegan wines including a 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2018 Shiraz.
The Shiraz is an example of the new wave of reds coming from the Yarra Valley. This one offers an intoxicating aroma of fresh berries and exotic spice along with a palate of fine supporting tannins.
The Cabernet was matured in oak barrels and allures with a fragrant bouquet of currant and mulberry infused with bay leaf blooms. There are notes of tobacco and spicy black olives. Slightly dry finish with fine-grained tannin.
Tokar Estate’s present and future
Tokar Estate now has two generations working alongside each other. Successes have seen the wines celebrated with many accolades and thus expand into the retail and restaurant markets.
Together with winemaker, Martin Siebert, Tokar Estate is continually working to finesse its bold and distinctive wine style. The hard work and attention to detail that defined the beginnings of Tokar Estate continue to underpin their vineyard practices.
