The Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra is one of the most popular hotels in Toulouse, and it’s easy to see why. This lavishly appointed four-star boutique hotel exudes charm and character. The Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra is ideally located in the heart of Toulouse on the famous Place du Capitole. And it offers the perfect base for guests to explore the highlights and monuments of Toulouse with ease. There is no better place to stay when exploring the ‘Pink City’.

Welcome to the Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra Toulouse
My arrival to the historic Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra is less than graceful. I try to tetras myself and an extra-large suitcase in to the hotels revolving doors without success. On the verge of abandoning my suitcase altogether, I notice an entrance I hadn’t seen before. Managing to regain some semblance of composure, I walk through the other entrance into the lobby of the Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra.
There’s a wooden staircase that curls upward, thick white pillars, plush blue velvet chairs, and floral wallpaper with matching curtains. The decor is charming. While checking in, I’m asked if I’ve been to Toulouse before. I haven’t. The hotel receptionist very kindly gives me some brochures with tips for enjoying the very best of Toulouse.
The Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra is gloriously opulent, and its 17th century style makes you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. There are theatrical props throughout, including a stunning gown in the stairwell.

History: Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra
The Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra has a long and exciting history. Amid the Renaissance period in the 17th century, the building sheltered a monastery. In 1789, it evolved from a monastery to “Lycée de la Revolution” – the school of revolution. And just a few years later, the Opera Dance School of Toulouse. In 1980, the hotel was refurbished and redesigned as a four-star boutique hotel, Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra. Today guests can experience all the charms of the hotels past, in a charming luxe setting.
Deluxe Room – Very French
My room is Opera Red with Toile de Jouy wallpaper. It feels very French. Dark wood, plush carpets, and heavy drapes extenuate the hotels historic allure. There’s a little chocolate on my pillow, which I eat without hesitation before. The bedroom is warm and cozy and temps to lull me to sleep.
The bathroom is spacious and has a shower and a bath – my favourite. But first, the spa.

The Spa – Terre de Jade
Terre de Jade is the spa of the Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra. You can enjoy a range of treatments, from energising massages to revitalising facial treatments. Guests can also book reiki sessions and wellbeing coaching. Be sure to indulge in the complimentary sauna access at Terre de Jade. Just remember, the spa isn’t open Sunday or public holidays. You don’t want to miss out of a sauna and spa treatment.
Dinner and Drinks – Brasserie de l’Opéra
There’s no restaurant at the Grand Hôtel de l’Opéra, but that doesn’t mean there’s no options. The hotels room service comes from the nearby Brasserie de l’Opéra, which includes vegetarian and vegan dish options. Better yet, visit the Michelin-starred Les Jardins de l’Opéra, which shares a courtyard with the hotel, for an exceptional gastronomic experience.
After dinner, sink into the velvet armchairs and plush sofas for an aperitif at the hotels elegant bar, before retiring to your room. The perfect end
