Forest Villas and Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda

A mother and child, Titus Group, Bisate Lodge, Wilderness Safari, Rwanda

Located in the natural amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone, Bisate Lodge offers guests breathtaking views of the Virunga volcanoes of the Afro-alpine forests. It’s here, at Bisate Lodge, guests can experience one of the most humbling moments in their lives – the chance to walk with gorillas.

Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park

Rwanda and its people have courageously rebuilt their community since the 1994 genocide, and work towards goals in support of its people, protection for the native wildlife and reforestation. A truly remarkable country, with so much heart.

Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is a haven for animals and plant life. And adjacent to the park is Bisate Lodge. The ecolodge strives to support the native wildlife by creating a sustainable safari camp and luxury guest lodgings.

There are six en-suite forest villas at Bisate Lodge. Each adhering to environmentally responsible principles as well as offering ultimate comfort and luxury to its guests. Each villa is 91 metres squared and has a bedroom, reception space, bathroom and a central fireplace. In typical Rwandan style the lodge rooms have domed roofs complete with draped thatching. The contemporary interiors still hold true to Rwandan style by using wood and volcanic stone and combining warm greys and bursts of vibrant greens.

Bisate Lodge

The lodge has unrivalled views of the Virunga volcanoes known as Bisoke, Karisimbi and Mikeno from the suites and is an optimal location to encounter gorillas, elephants, golden monkeys and side-striped jackals.

Guests can take part in organised treks to the rainforests of the Volcanoes National Park in the Albertine Rift where they can see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. While encountering gorillas in the wild is certainly a draw card for many who visit Rwanda, there are other treks available equally as exciting, and varying in intensity.

Those who prefer a gentle trek can set off on an adventure with a troop of golden monkeys and those who have a little (a lot…) more energy can head up the volcano to Dian Fossey’s grave and a former research station at Karisoke. You can even trek around the top of one of the volcanoes if you’re brave enough. When the legs need a rest a visit to nearby lakes or a stroll through the local villages offers a unique perspective into this beautiful country.

Bisate Lodge and the local community

Bisate Lodge work closely with the local community and the Tusamurana Cooperative on community projects ensuring that the surround areas, people and wildlife benefit from the lodge profits. Guests interested in learning more about the work done at Bisate can participate in the reforestation program run by the lodge. The reforestation occurs on a 26 hectare plot of farmland where any flora and fauna whose habitats have shrunk or suffered are being reintroduced to the area.

A stay at the lodge will cost US $1,100 per night and include accommodation, meals, local drinks, lodge activities, and Wi-Fi.

Bisate Lodge is a first in Rwandan luxury eco-lodges and a once in a life time experience.
