From Paris to Provence

Emily in Paris (pronounced Paree – see it rhymes) is regaling us with even more incredible locations in season three including the Loire Valley and Provence. The old favourites are still on the screen such as Emily’s pad in the Place de Lestrade, Savoir (now Agence Grateau)  in Place de Valois and Galerie Perrotin.

Cafe de Flore, Paris

Now we can crawl out of our lockdown barracks, locations can be visited in the flesh and they are. Café de Flore often has queues out the door gratis of Emily in Paris although it is also known for attracting visitors such as Descartes, Picasso, de Beauvoir and Trotsky. Restaurant Le Cinq in Hotel George V is booked completely and the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat has become even more popular.

Season three is slated to bring even more visitors after debuting on December 21 and already collecting 117.6 million hours viewed putting it at number 2 on the US English language chart. It is in the top 10 in 93 countries with season one back in the top 10 in the US with 11.5 m hours. It seems we can’t get enough of that over-the-top fashion and Lucas Bravo in his chef role as Gabriel.

Clover Gordes, Provence

In season three Gabriel secures a table at the restaurant which is number one on his bucket list – L’Esprit de Luberon which was filed at Clover Gordes overlooking the olive trees and lavender fields in Provence. The restaurant is set in the hotel Airelles Gordes where the cast and crew often dine on local ingredients an a menu devised by chef Jean-François Piège.

Also filmed in Provence at Chateau de Montpoupon was a hot air balloon scene in lavender fields not far from Aix-en-Provence. Le Chateau de Sonnay in the Loire Valley also makes another appearance with the chapel scene and engagement party being filmed at the Chateau owned by Frédéric de Foucaud.

Hotel Molitor Paris

Another hotel firmly on my personal bucket list is the Hotel Molitor Paris or more specifically the Piscine Molitor where Mindy and Emily are filmed around a retro pool sipping drinks and enjoying the landscape. It is here that the bikini debuted in 1946 and soon after the topless trend around 1968. It’s tres close to Paris on the border of Porte de Saint-Cloud.

Musée des Arts Décoratifs

Back in Paris, the Pierre Cadault Retrospective inspired by Dior’s 70th anniversary exhibition was filmed in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. This is just one of a number of museums and galleries filmed including the Musée d’Orsay, Fragonard Musée du Parfum, and the Musée de la Vie Romantique.

The Eiffel Tower

It’s just not Paris if there’s no Eiffel Tower so of course, the Eiffel Tower was included by being both filmed on and within the restaurant le Jules Verne. Le Jules Verne is on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower and at 400 feet in the air, this Michelin starred restaurant offers views of the Champ-de-Mars, the Quai Branly, and the Trocadéro.

Montmartre

Another iconic location is La Nouvelle Eve in Montmartre which is one of the oldest revue theatres in Paris. Walls covered in midnight blue velvet and a ceiling dotted with twinkling stars is the perfect place to showcase Mindy’s singing talents. Visitors to Paris can go to a dinner show here. Also in Paris, filming was done at the new So Paris and the Parc de la Villette where Emily and Gabriel have fun jumping into bubbles.

The Latin Quarter

A lot of time was spent on location in the Latin Quarter St Germain des Pres, Place de l’Estrapade by the Panthéon, where Emil’s apartment is located along with la Boulangerie Moderne.

Where else is Emily in Paris filmed?

An Emily in Paris Season three itinerary could also take in the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre; Gare du Nord; Jardin des Tuileries and Jardin du Palais Royal; Palais Garnier; Parc de la Villette, Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, Parvis Notre-Dame; and of course le mur des je t’aime.
