Luxury accommodation, shopping and restaurants in Prahan

An art series hotel in Prahan
Words by Daniel Resnik & photos by the Cullen & Daniel Resnik
Prahan is the swanky end of Melbourne. It is here that you will find the swankiest of hotels, the Cullen, which is part of the Art Series Hotels.
Even the exterior architecture of the Cullen appears to be a work of art, with abstract blocks jutting out at irregular angles from the building. The entrance is a funky bright red, with a print of a Cullen-painted happy dog welcomes you on arrival. The glass inner door holds a life-size silver cow sculpture. Inside, the lobby’s high ceilings run all the way to the top of the hotel highlighting a large hanging pendant.
Works by Adam Cullen
Adding to the colour and pizazz of the hotel, the Cullen showcases hundreds of different works and sculptures by the late Australian artist Adam Cullen.
The design and décor of the Cullen make it a standout boutique hotel and is one of my favourite Melbourne hotels with a bonus being the Prahran Market, that is just across the road.
Prahan Market is close by
Prahran Market is filled with delicatessens, cafes, fruit and flower stalls, and close to some of the city’s hippest of restaurants, bars, and boutiques. If you want to head into the CBD, the tram is on your doorstep.
A few minutes’ walk from the Cullen takes you to Chapel Street famous for its fashion and trendy shops. Greville Street is just around the corner and is the spiritual hub of Prahran with its vintage stores, independent record shops, cafes, bars, galleries, and some very cool local designers.
